AnGela’s exquisite pieces bridge the divide between jewellery design and art. AnGela only creates once-off art jewellery pieces and her work when not worn can be displayed in a custom-made showcase on a home or office wall.

AnGela’s work reveals her fascination with texture, pattern, rhythm, movement, nature and systems and there tends to be a finely balanced tension between the organic and the geometrical, the confined and the open-ended, the serious and the light-hearted, the intellectual and the emotional. More often than not, her work can be read on different levels and there is generally more than meets the unquestioning eye. The tensions, the complex amalgamation of various apparent opposites and the onion-like layering are definite attributes of her own personality.

The Dark Side by Frieda Lühl

Frieda Lühl recently completed a new range, aptly titled The Dark Side. For this range, Frieda experimented with oxidising the silver to create a blackened matt effect. The dark feel of this range is further emphasised by the use of faceted Garnets and Tourmalins. Frieda also used dendritic agates which are reminiscent of a snowy winter landscape. Other interesting stones used in this range include black drusis as well as star rubies.

The range consists of long dangly earrings, long necklaces and statement rings and is currently exclusively available at 36 Boutiques.com

After a successful Design Indaba, Jewellery designer Maike Valcarcel is now selling at more galleries in Cape Town as well as in Johannesburg.
Besides Africa Nova and Merchants on Long, Maike recently started supplying Avital Lang Gallery in Mouillepoint as well.

A treasure hunter at heart, Maike is always on the look-out for unique gemstones to make one of a kind jewellery pieces that bridge the gap between jewellery and art.

Cape Town jewellery designer Philippa Green has an eye for beauty and sees potential in ordinary found objects. The rings, shown in the picture below are made from bronze with stamps Philippa found in India, adding to the decorative quality of each piece.

Philippa has also recently started making bangles to compliment her extensive range of cuffs, rings and earrings. The bangle below is made from Perspex with hand-engraved silver detail.

Olive Green Cat’s New Showroom

Olive Green Cat recently opened their new showroom and design studio in Church Street, Cape Town – a beautiful space, situated within Cape Town’s creative hub.
Pop in to 76 Church Street (between Long and Loop Street) to view a large selection of unique, contemporary South African jewellery hand-crafted by Ida Elsje, Philippa Green and Situ (the innovative collaboration between Ida, Philippa and Architect Gregory Katz in which diamonds are suspended in resin). Together, these three brands make up Olive Green Cat.

The showroom boasts a large collection of each designer’s signature pieces as well as a selection of once-off rings incorporating found objects such as antiques and other collectables. Clients are also welcome to bring in their own precious stones, diamonds or other jewellery pieces to be remodelled at the studio.

Jewellery Designer and Goldsmith Maike Valcarcel

Jewellery designer and goldsmith Maike Valcarcel was born in Germany into a family of artists. She later studied jewellery design and manufacture in Pforzheim and Heidelberg before relocating to South Africa in 1993. She now works from her own workshop in Hout Bay supplying galleries in Johannesburg and Cape Town as well as participating in various exhibitions.

Her jewellery is contemporary with an African touch, is entirely handmade with great attention to detail and aims to bring joy to its wearers.
