Jared Odell is a born and bred Cape Town based designer. He graduated with a degree in Industrial Design and went off to work for one of the most recognisable international design firms in South Africa. Jared designed for some of the biggest international brands in the world, both locally and internationally. After a few years in the corporate world of design, he has taken the leap to go out on his own, and “Jared Odell Furniture & Design” is the result of this move. Adventure, Style, Beauty, Freedom and Individuality are the driving creative forces behind Jared Odell. His desire to create something beautiful yet classic and timeless is the goal of Jared Odell Furniture & Design.

Cape Town furniture designer Haldane Martin, is opening a Joburg showroom in Objekt’s Parktown North retail space as of the 1^st of October 2010. Johannesburg design professionals, and furniture lovers alike now have the opportunity to experience Haldane’s award winning furniture first hand. Both well-known iconic designs like the Zulu Mama chair, Songololo Sofa, and Fiela Feather lights, as well as new designs such as the Baba Papa lounger will be permanently available to view, touch and feel. Objekt’s owner Susanne Allers, will ensure that all sales enquiries are handled professionally, with retail and trade prices matching that of Haldane Martin’s showroom in Cape Town.

All are welcome to attend the official launch brunch this Saturday 2^nd of October 10am – 12pm.

Love Me Love Me Not Table: These delicate side tables are available individually or as a set of eight making up a full flower. The sculpted form of the base unfurls to reveal a surface like a floating leaf or petal.

Magnet Lounge Chair: The low-slung Magnet chairs invite you to lounge in absolute comfort. They are hand crafted, with clean sculpted lines.

Stretch Lounger: This pared-down piece is at once elegantly crisp and softly organic. The fluid lines of the warm timber base are in stark contrast to the sleek black lounging surface.

The Globe Chair was originally designed and patented in 1921, and made in Durban until the early 1940’s. Everyone that sees the chair has a fond memory of a favourite grandmother using them in her kitchen. Its plain simplicity belies its real ingenuity, the unique bolt together assembly system. This incredibly strong assembly system and the durable solid bent wood frame is the reason that you still find these highly sought after chairs in use today. I felt the chair deserved a second chance, and so I am putting it back into production, having made one small improvement – hiding the assembly bolts without compromising on the strength and offering it in a variety of contemporary finishes, from raw beech to brightly coloured spray finishes.
