A sensational new international act has joined the hot line-up at Vaudeville.
Since opening its doors in December 2009, Vaudeville has become one of the Mother City’s premier entertainment destinations.
The 300-seater burlesque supper club has been thrilling patrons nightly with a superb combination of outstanding local and international acts, enjoyed over a three course dinner created by DISH Food and Social.
The latest additions to the Vaudeville cast are Romanian performers Constantin Ciobotaru and Dan Tazlauanu who perform Ballance, a breathtaking hand to hand strength act that is to be seen to be believed and that literally has audience members gasping in their seats. They have joined the show for ten weeks only before moving to Cirque du Soleil’s Mystère production in Las Vegas. The duo studied gymnastics from the age of four under one of the most talented and dedicated gymnastics coaches. At the age of 18 they began to explore the more artistic side of gymnastics and over time, perfected their skilful act that demonstrates their exceptional physical control and grace.
Produced by Will Hutton and Andrew Florenca of the Sunroom, the Vaudeville show is a true multi- genre entertainment experience. As audiences enter through the velvet curtains they step into a plush world of gaudy fantasy, where The Penguin rules the floor and the performers reign onstage. Compered by Irit Noble and with Aubrey Shelton as the Ringmaster, the line up includes world champion Bboys Jed and Duane Lawrence, tap dancers Peter Johnson and Nick Snow, dynamic acro adagio pas de deux couple Lisa Pridgeon and Daniel Bauer, KJ Haupt in a spectacular hula hoop fire act, the singing To Do Sisters, Chantal Nell on double rings, Lloyd Kandlin performing twice in an hilarious aerial comedy act as well as with Justine Whyte on the single trapeze. Singer Lu Chase will be making a guest appearance during the first two weeks in April and the five piece band Jinx, whose electric symphonies combine balkan oompah and circus, will once again be taking people on a journey through the weird and the wonderful world that is Vaudeville.
The Vaudeville venue in Cape Town has been conceptualised by Robert Sawyer and Tom Pearson-Adams. Sawyer, with 25 years experience in hotels, restaurants and bars, successfully floated his UK based entertainment group ‘Po Na Na’ in the 1990’s. He has turned the once unknown hotel Le Farinet in Switzerland’s Verbier into a number one Après Ski venue and Vaudeville is his 100th venue opening. His business partner Tom Pearson-Adams comes with 15 years experience in and around the European music industry with numerous international broadcast and licensing credits including the first global Ministry Of Sound DVD and introducing the sales of the George V (Buddha Bar series) label to the UK.
Performances run Tuesdays to Saturdays at 8:15pm with guests to be seated by 7:45pm. Tickets cost R350 each, and R395 for ringside tables and booths.
